GENESIS
CHAPTER 8
The flood ceases—Noah sends forth a dove, which returns with an olive leaf—He releases all living things from the ark—He offers sacrifices—Seedtime and harvest and seasons assured.
1 AND God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged; [ Receeded. ]
2 The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;
3 And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated. [ At the end of the six month period the rain stops. ]
And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, [ The ark hits ground and stops on the mountain in the seventh month since the doors were closed. Realize that the ark is a few storys high as a result it would be at least a few feet under the water. It will still take Two and a half more months before ground - the tops of mountains will begin to appear vs 5. ] upon the mountains of Ararat. [ The Egyptian Life of Adam and Eve makes a distinction between two lands: one where Adam lived, and one where Noah would live after the Flood: will deliver what is left of the righteous among them; and I will bring them to a distant land, and the land in which you live now shall remain desolate and without one inhabitant in it. ( Life Of Adam And Eve 53:7) So Adam and Eve will not live in the same place that Noah and his descendants would live. Compared to Noah and his descendants in the Old Word, Adam and Eve lived in a "distant land." Also, according to the Book of Ether, the Jaredites from the Old World would sail to the New World, or "that quarter where there never had men been.”(Ether 2:5) Just as the Egyptian author chad dam's land "desolate" after the Flood, the Book of Mormon would cali he Land of "Desolation" after the Jaredites were wiped out, too. (Alma 46:17) When Adam gives his farewell address to his children, he doesn't say, of the earth" shortly after they have been saved from the waters of the "Bury me here," he instructs them to "take [his] body and lay it in the middle food. The Book of the Cave of Treasures records a last request from Adam in his parting sermon, where he asks that his body shall be "carried" to "the centre of the earth," which is the "place that shall redemption be effected for (him and for all [his] children," (Treasures For. 8b, col. 2) ]
5 And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.
6 ¶ And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made:
7 And he sent forth a raven, [ He sends out a raven first. Why? A raven will gather from the tops of trees and bushes and the tops to trees would be the first to come forth after the flood. ] which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth.
8 Also he sent forth a dove from him, [ What is the difference between a Raven and a Dove? A Raven will scavenge from trees or any where. A Dove on the other hand will only eat off of the ground - So the dove is looking for dry ground to feed, hence its return after finding a live olive tree. ] to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground; [ Or to see if the earth was dry, if the ground was dry. ]
9 But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.
10 And he [ Noah and his family and all of the animals. ] stayed yet other seven days; [ How long was the creation? Seven days. ] and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark;
11 And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth. [ Symbolic that a Dove is sent out to see if salvation is possible - if there is hope to live on the land again. The doves return from flight with the confirmation the (knowledge) that life is possible again. The symbolism there is huge, what the dove symbolizes. Peace, and it can also symbolize the Holy Ghost; you think of the baptism of Jesus. And then the olive tree, and what that symbolizes. The dove brings back a leaf from the olive tree. And the olive tree is symbolic of new life, renewal, starting over again. And this is because olive trees are, like honestly, really hard to kill and cut down. And even if you cut off all the branches and all the branches are destroyed, the roots always survive, and new shoots can grow out of the roots. And this is seen as a symbol of new life, a restart, a refresh; almost a recreation. What's great about this is six through nine, and this talking about the Flood, really parallels Creation in Genesis 1-3. We get this watery chaos at the beginning. And out of the watery chaos, through the winds, sent from God, the dry land appears. The water recedes and then the people and the animals are brought forth, either through creation or they leave the Ark. And then there's a reference, to a blessing and this sort of commandment, "Go out and multiply and replenish the earth." The same thing that was said to Adam and Eve, was said to the people on the ark, when they left the ark. ]
12 And he [ Noah and his family and all of the animals. Including every living thing seeds, plants and animals that were needed to give life to a new world.(Gen 6:19) ] stayed yet other seven days; [ The length of the creation. Seven days or as long as it takes. ] and sent forth the dove; which returned not again unto him any more.
13 ¶ And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, [ So about 11 months from the time they entered the ark. They went in on the second months of the year and out on the 1st month of the year 11 months later. See also Gen 7:11. ] the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, [ Kafar - the covering which God had placed over the ark to protect it. Everything that was inside of the ark was under the covering of God - Kafar - atone. "Kafar" is from the same root as the word "kippur," which some might recognize from the Jewish holiday "Yom Kippur" or "Day of Atonement." Exodus 30 uses kafar to describe what the sacrificial ram does to the sins of Israel: "Give an offering unto the LORD, to your souls. “(Ex 30:15) In the Hebrew Torah, there are 102 instances of or variations on kafar. Keep in mind this word comes from Adam and Eve's garment.) Yet somehow, this poor word gets translated as everything from "cleanse”(Num 35:33) to "disannul.”(Isa 28:18) No less than 71 of those 102 instances, kafar gets translated into the English word "atonement.”( Exo 29:33, Exo 29:36, Exo 29:37, Exo 30:10, Exo 30:15, Exo 30:16, Exo 32:30, Lev 1:4, Lev 4:20, Lev 4:26, Lev 4:31, Lev 4:35, Lev 5:6, Lev 5:10, Lev 5:13, Lev 5:16, Lev 5:18, Lev 6:7, Lev 7:7, Lev 8:34, Lev 9:7, Lev 10:17, Lev 12:7, Lev 12:8, Lev 14:18, Lev 14:19, Lev 14:20, Lev 14:21, Lev 14:29, Lev 14:31, Lev 14:53, Lev 15:15, Lev 15:30, Lev 16:6, Lev 16:10, Lev 16:11, Lev 16:16, Lev 16:17, Lev 16:18, Lev 16:24, Lev 16:27, Lev 16:30, Lev 16:32, Lev 16:33, Lev 16:34, Lev 17:11, Lev 19:22, Lev 23:28, Num 5:8, Num 6:11, Num 8:12, Num 8:19, Num 8:21, Num 15:25, Num 15:28, Num 16:46, Num 16:47, Num 25:13, Num 28:22, Num 28:30, Num 29:30, Num 29:5, Num 31:50, 2 Samuel 21:3, 1 Chr 6:49, 2 Chr 29:24, Neh 10:33. Why is "cover" or "covering" translated into "atonement"? Well those same translators who brought you words like "trinity" and "helpmeet" also thought up the word "atonement." In the medieval church, there existed an idea of becoming one with the Lord, which in Latin was called "ad-una-mentum"; literally, "at one ness." When William Tyndale set to translating the Bible into English, he had to figure out what to do with the word kafar. For some inexplicable reason, Tyndale decided to create an anglicized version of the Latin "ad-una-mentum" and insert it over kafar. You might be thinking, Tyndale translated "atonement" from the Latin "adunamentum," when be probably should have just gone back to the original Hebrew word for "adunamentum." You'd be right, except that the word "adunamentum" never appears in any Bible translation, Latin, Hebrew or otherwise. Ever. Simply put: "Atonement" is not a Biblical word. Tyndale pulled it out of Latin Catholic liturgy and slapped it all over the Bible. Thus "at-one-ment" was born. Before Catholic politicians created it, the origin word for "atonement" just didn't exist. (Lost Gems of Genesis pg 33-34) ] and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry.
14 And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried.
15 ¶ And God spake unto Noah, saying,
16 Go forth of the ark, [ So apparently he is still residing in the ark. So this would have been a year since he entered the ark. He is commanded to leave the ark. ] thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives with thee.
17 Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth.
18 And Noah went forth, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him:
19 Every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creepeth upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark.
20 ¶ And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD;[ This is the same thing that Adam did when he left the garden of Eden. In the JST Genesis 9:4 we see that it was a offering of gratitude to the Lord. He adds onto the end of it, the sacrifice was to give thanks unto the Lord, and he rejoiced in his heart. ] and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. [ Clean and unclean animals didn't exist in the days of Noah. so, you've got someone writing from the viewpoint of the Law of Moses, they're trying to validate the Law of Moses, and make it older than it seems. Whoa cowboy - If there were only two of ever animal how was he able to do this and still have both male and female to pro-create? See Gen 7:2 for the answer. The clean beasts were taken by sevens. Also see JST Gen 9:4 which add "and gave thanks unto the Lord, and rejoiced in his heart." at the end of the verse. The Jews have a tradition that the place where Noah built his altar was the same in which the altar stood which was built by Adam, and used by Cain and Hebel, and the same spot on which Abraham afterwards offered up his son Isaac. ]
21 And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; [ Or the Lord was pleased with the offerring that Noah made. ] and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground [ Or "I will not add to the curse on the ground" in essence the Lord makes a promise that he will not curse the ground again with water; The next time it will be with fire 2 Pet 3:7. ] any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. [ See JST translation Gen 9:4-7 4 And Noah builded an altar unto the Lord, and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar; and gave thanks unto the Lord, and rejoiced in his heart. 5 And the Lord spake unto Noah, and he blessed him. And Noah smelled a sweet savor, and he said in his heart; 6 I will call on the name of the Lord, that he will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake, for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; and that he will not again smite any more every thing living, as he hath done, while the earth remaineth; The Lord begins a new period with man. Let's recap the reasons then for the flood: Now in the new Old World, Noah and his sons "builded an altar unto the LORD" to offer sacrifices of gratitude.(Gen 8:20) Relieved, the Lord pronounced, "[While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease." (Gen 8:22) This was after many centuries of barrenness and famine. Noah commands his sons to enjoin upon his sons sons the ordinances and commandments ... for owing to these three things came the flood upon the earth, namely, owing to the fornication wherein the Watchers against the law of their ordinances went a whoring after the daughters of men. Jubilees 7:20-21) There you have it. That's why God flooded the world. Satan had figured out a way to choke off the Plan, so God had to rinse and repeat. The Flood of Noah was one of the most merciful acts Jehovah ever performed. Conclusion In just a few short chapters, Joseph has patched up the Bible's largest holes. Joseph Smith Jr.'s revelations, confirmed by the apocryphal discoveries, finally bring some clarity to the craziest story in the Old Testament: 1) The "sons of God"(Moses 6:22, 7:1; Treasures 27, Fol. 12a, col. 2.) were the "mighty"(Treasures 27, Fol. 12a, cols. 1-2.) Sons of Seth, sanctified, ordained(Moses 6:7.) and married(Treasures 19, Fol. 9b, col. 1; Treasures Fol. 9b, col. 1) priesthood holders who swore oaths to "watch over"(D&C 107:53-58; Second Life 8:14; Treasures, pg. 72, Fol. 8b, col. 1.) the people and serve them. 2) But instead they started watching the daughters of Cain dancing below.(Treasures Fol. 13a, col.1) The nickname the "Watchers" would stick. 3) There were no giants. 4) The Sons of Seth swore blood oaths to each other and snuck down the mountain to commit adultery with the daughters of Cain ( Moses 6:29; 1 Enoch 6:1.) They "fell."(Treasures Fol. 13a, col. 1; Clementine Homilies 8:13; Kebra Nagast 100.) 5) They got stuck below. (Clementine Homilies 8:13.) 6) Using sacred knowledge and skill, (1 Enoch 16:1; 1 Enoch 9:; 1 Enoch 10:1.) the Sons of Seth instituted mass sterilization ( Jasher 2:19-21.) and abortion, ( Genesis Rabbah 26:7. ) also called "Nephilim." 7) The result was unbridled hedonism. Rape, (Treasures Fol. 15a, col.1.) murder ( Moses 6:4-16.) and incest (Treasures Fol. 12b, col. 1.) became commonplace. 8) The Sons of Seth engaged in kidnapping and sex-slavery. (Jasher 4:18.) 9) Mankind lost the ability to reproduce. (Moses 6:25; 1 Enoch 98:5; Jasher 2:22.) 10) Mankind began tampering with genetics. (DSS, 4Q531 Frag. 2, lines 1-3; See also Kebra Nagast 6.) 11) The Sons of Seth drank blood' to try to live forever, which only incentivized more murder. 12) A crippling famine(1 Enoch 7:1.) pushed the children of men to cannibalism. (1 Enoch 7:1; 53:2.) 13) Satan tried to prevent the advent of the mortal Messiah(3 Enoch 44:8.) to
"seize Adam and all his family." ( Livre d'Adam, chapter 5, pg. 88.) 14) The whole world was filled with men who's only desire was unto themselves - what they wanted, things that would make life better for them. Sex without responsibility, no accountability for anything - true eat drink and be merry. 15) The Lord began (or planned to) shorten lifespans ( Moses 8:17; Jasher 7:20; Antiquities, III, 2.) to limit the spread of wickedness. 16) The Lord prepared a separate section of the Spirit World for the antediluvians. (Alma 40:12; 1 Enoch 22:5-6; Treasures 34, Fol. 15b, cols. 1-2; 1 Enoch 71:11-12) 17) Anyone who repented was taken up by Enoch, (Moses 7:21.) leaving only the "residue" of the wicked on Earth. (Moses 7:28; Treasures 29, Fol. 13b, col. 2.) 18) Noah was a miraculous birth ( Moses 8:9; Genesis Apocryphon Fragment 2, col. 2.) and was chosen to restart
Creation after the Flood, pure from corruption. 19) God is just, and the Flood was the only way to redeem mankind. ]
22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
