TIMOTHY
CHAPTER 4
Paul describes the latter-day apostasy—Christ is the Savior of all men, specially of those that believe.
NOW the Spirit speaketh expressly, [ Paul speaks in a revealatory fashion, declaring the future of the church to the people. ] that in the latter times [ or the time in which we live now. ] some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; [ Perhaps one of the greatest divisors in the church today is the effects brough about by the Gay community. Many good families have a child, a good friend or in some how get caught up in the discussion such that they choose to leave the church because if the Lord's stand on the matter. They have their feelings hurt or decide that they cannot accept that the church will not change it's policies and doctrine to match what they would like. Look at how Satan has tried to kill the church in the past: From Joesph Smith - Lorenzo Snow satan tried to physically kill the members, mobs, malitias, crossing the plains... From Joseph F Smith to Ezra Taft Benson satan tried to kill the church intellictually; from that time to President Hunter satan tried to kill the church through morality hippy movements, drugs...From that period until President Monson satan is trying to kill the church through destruction of the family. Designed specifically to tear the individula and extended family apart. ]
2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.
7 But refuse profane [ profane comes from procul a fano, "far from the temple." If you look up the entomology of the word "profane", you’re gonna find that the word comes from the Latin word "pro", which means "before or outside". And the Latin word "phantom", which means "temple". And when you put pro and phantom together, you get the Latin word "profanus", from which our English word profane is derived, which literally means "outside the temple". The word profane literally means one who is not sacred, one who is not allowed to enter sacred temple space. When the ancients, even heathens, were about to perform some very sacred rites, they were accustomed to command the irreligious to keep at a distance ] and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. [ Elder Packer: True doctrine, understood, changes attitudes and behavior. The study of the doctrines of the gospel will improve behavior quicker than a study of behavior will improve behavior." (Boyd K. Packer, (Little Children," Ensign (November 1986): 16,17.) ]
8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
9 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.
10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.
11 These things command and teach.
12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, [ True power from God is safeguarded by one attribute alone and that is charity. This is one of the foremost attribues of Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ. So when we talk about charity hat God is saying is in order to wield my power I need to know that you have an eye single to the glory of God - the immortality and eternal life of man. ] in spirit, in faith, in purity.
13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.
16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
