CHAPTER 20
Jesus provides bread and wine miraculously and again administers the sacrament unto them—The remnant of Jacob shall come to the knowledge of the Lord their God and shall inherit the Americas—Jesus is the prophet like unto Moses, and the Nephites are children of the prophets—Others of the Lord’s people shall be gathered to Jerusalem. [ A.D. 34 ]
1 A
ND it came to pass that he commanded the multitude that they should cease to pray, and also his disciples. And he commanded them that they
should not cease to pray in their hearts.
[ How do we continue to pray in our hearts? Jesus' command for them to continue to pray in their hearts, the heart being the seat of one's desires to the Semitic mind, means he is telling them to keep the same thoughts and desires continuing with them even though they stop the formal act of prayer to participate in the sacrament. How does this all make sense as we consider prayer a formalized act, so how could they keep praying when they are watching Jesus administer the sacrament? The Semitic notion of prayer is less formal. The Hebrew term "palal" (which term also serves as the root for the Hebrew "tephillah" [Strong's 08605] which is commonly translated to "prayer") is defined in Strong's as follows:
06419 palal {paw-lal'} - here is the various ways that it was interpreted in the bible & the number of times for each showing a wide usage of the word: pray 74, made 3, judge 2, intreat 1, judgment 1, prayer 1, supplication 1, thought 1; 84
1) to intervene, interpose, pray
1a) (Piel) to mediate, judge
1b1) to intercede
1b2) to pray ]
2 And he commanded them that they should arise and stand up upon their feet. And they arose up and stood upon their feet.
3 And it came to pass that
he brake bread again and blessed it,
[ Jesus administers the sacrament. ] and gave to the disciples to eat. [ The sacrament is administer to the twelve first. ]
4 And when
they [ His twelve disciples. ] had eaten he commanded them that they should break bread, and give unto the multitude.
5 And when they had given unto the multitude he also gave them wine to drink, and commanded them that they should give unto the multitude.
6 Now,
there had been no bread, neither wine, brought by the disciples, neither by the multitude;
[ Jesus provided the bread and wine miraculously - since no on brought it What is the symbolism here with the Savior providing the bread and water? The first time he prepared the sacrament the disciples brought the bread(3 Ne. 18:1) - the second time Jesus (the bread of life) brought the bread thus showing that he was there to fulfill the law - He is the living water as well. Our sacrament meetings are designed to gather us to him in a spiritual sense. Now the savior is going to address a physical gathering as well. ]
7 But he truly gave unto them bread to eat, and also wine to drink.
8 And he said unto them: He that eateth this bread eateth of my body to his soul; and he that drinketh of this wine drinketh of my blood to his soul; and his soul shall never hunger nor thirst, but shall be filled.
9 Now, when the multitude had all eaten and drunk, behold, they were filled with the Spirit; [ Jesus has prepared the sacrament - now the people are of the proper spirit to hear the rest of his teachings regarding the doctrine of the gathering of Israel. ] and they did cry out with one voice, and gave glory to Jesus, whom they both saw and heard.
[ In reading this chapter we cannot take the events describe herein as occurring linearly. Reading it as though v. 10-19 happens, then v. 20-28 happens, then v. 29-46 happens will leave the reader terribly confused as they really are all talking about the same single event. What each portion does is address the same even from a different viewpoint so as to emphasize a particular point. Verses 10-19 emphasize that Israel will be gathered and made the Lord's people and the Gentiles will be under Israel's heel, a reversal of Israel's general history. Not everyone was here yesterday when he taught - so he reviews what he taught yesterday vs 10-19 - compared to yesterdays teachings 16:4-20; and ends by expanding on the themes v.20-28. ]
10 And it came to pass that when they had all given glory unto Jesus, he said unto them: Behold
now I finish the commandment which the Father hath commanded me concerning this people,
[ What was his commandment from the Father that he was finishing? To visit his other sheep (see 16:3-4; 18:27;) and teach them the gospel - to renew those covenants with them. So he is going to start to begin to continue on with the message that he was commanded of the Father to give them, after he stopped the end of the first day as they were tired. He continues by telling them in verses 11-13 that The Father will remember his covenant and restore Israel. ] who are a remnant of the house of Israel.
11
Ye remember that I spake unto you,
[ He starts again where he left off in Chapter 16. Jesus is trying to keep the people (remnants of natural Israel) focused on the covenant that they have with him - stay focused until the job is done so to speak, until all is completed cp. 15:6-7. In addition the crowd has grown in size and so Jesus would want o recap some of the previous days remarks so that everyone was up to speed. ] and said that when
the words of Isaiah should be fulfilled—b [ The words which he spake concerning the watchman See 3 Ne 16:18. ] behold they are written,
ye have them before you, therefore search them— [ Not the first time we have heard this is it. the words of Isaiah are recommended by Nephi (cf. 2 Ne. 25:5-7), Jesus (cp. 23:1), and Moroni (cf. Mormon 8:23). Why do we then treat them so lightly? Why don't we focus on them more? Should We? ]
12 And verily, verily, I say unto you, that
when they shall be fulfilled [ The covenants as recorded by Isaiah concerning Israel are fulfilled. See verse 11 - the words of Isaiah. They were told by the Savior to study them. So here he is saying that the fulfillment of those words is the fulfillment of God's covenant with Israel. ] then is the fulfilling of the covenant which the Father hath made unto his people, O house of Israel.
[ He is now addressing the entire house of Israel. Only then is the Father's covenant with them fulfilled. What is the significance of the fulfilling of this covenant? What is to happen after it is fulfilled? Savior rules the earth and all of Israel will know that Jesus is the Christ v.13. ]
13 And then shall the remnants, which shall be scattered abroad upon the face of the earth,
be gathered in [ The word gather in Hebrew means literally "to grasp with the hand" as if not to let go and denotes a very personal touch from someone such as a warm handshake. What was the object of the in the gathering in the days of Moses? The main reason was to build a house unto the Lord were he could reveal unto his people the ordinances of his house and the glories of his kingdom. All while teaching his people the way of salvation and the administer the ordinances required for such. Ex 19; D&C 110:11 ] from the east and from the west, and from the south and from the north; [ Something to understand about the 4 cardinal directions in prophetic language. Like numbers, it represents quality, not direction. Facing East is always the "correct" way to face. It is covenant-keeping. Example: the Garden was placed Eastward in Eden. Christ will come from the East when He comes again. The sun/son rises in the East. Because you face East, that is what is in your future. Thus, what is in the West is in your past. It is your history, your anchor. It is the words and the prophets. When you face East, the North is on your left hand. This is not a good place to be from. This is covenant-breaking. Israel was taken captive into the North countries, or the covenant-breaking countries of the world. And it is out of them that Israel must return. North is also the only direction in which, if you face it, you will never see the sun/son. The south shares the same word in Hebrew as "parched", probably because the world's largest desert lay to the south of Israel. Though it is sparsely populated, the peoples are cared for by the Lord. It is a land of "milk and honey". It is Egypt, a place of refuge. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, even the Child Jesus sought refuge in the south in Egypt. But they did not stay there. It is the only direction which, if you face it, you will always see the sun/son, and view its highest point in the sky. ] and
they shall be brought to the knowledge of the Lord their God, who hath redeemed them.
[ What is the first step in the gathering? SPIRITUAL - Note that we are gathered first to Christ and the Gospel then to our respective covenant lands. Spiritual first then secondary physical lands of inheritance. ]
14 And
the Father hath commanded me that I should give unto you [ Manessah. ] this land, for your inheritance. [ See 3 Ne 15:13-15 Lord kept them sheltered from the Jews. he kept the fact that this was their land and other tribes got other lands and that was not known to the Jews was for a reason. Why did they need this land as an inheritance? Because it was required that freedoms exist in the land in order for the gospel to be able to develop and spread to the whole world. ]
15 And I say unto you, that
if the Gentiles do not repent after the blessing which they shall receive,
[ What is the definition of a Gentile? Literal meaning is 'of the same clan or race' various meanings include: Who was considered a Gentile to Ham and Shem the sons of Noah? 1) The descendants of Noah's son Japheth were called Gentiles (Gen 10:1-5) so the descendants of Ham and Shem were not Gentiles. Who would have been considered a Gentile in the days of Abraham? 2) In the days of Abraham the term was used to refer to those that had not descended from him - with the assurance that all Gentiles could be adopted into his literal seed, Abra. 2:9-11; Teachings pp 149-150 How about a few years later in ancient Israel, who would have been considered a Gentile? 3) In the days of ancient Israel those who were not descendants of Jacob were considered Gentiles. How about if you were to ask a jew who is considered a Gentile? 4) After the ten tribes were lead away into Assyrian captivity about 725 B.C. those of the Kingdom of Judah called themselves Jews and labeled all others as Gentiles. It is the definition that would have been taught to both Mulek and Lehi hence the Book of Mormon often marks the division of men as Jew and Gentile - ie United States as a Gentile nation 1 Ne. 13: 3 Ne. 21: The promise would come by way of the Gentile Mormon Doc pp 310-311; Book Of Mormon Student Manual Religion 121-122 pp 33 If you were to ask a Mormon today - who is a Gentile what would the answer be? Anyone who is not a member of the church. What is a Gentile for the purpose of this context? Anyone who has not made the covenant with the God of Israel (Jesus Christ) and thus is not part of the fold of the Lord. Those gentiles that do not repent and accept the gospel that was granted to them. ] after they have scattered my people—
[ Includes scattering at Nauvoo I H Barlow]
16
Then shall ye, who are a remnant of the house of Jacob,
[ Reference to all the remnants of Israel, not just the Lamanites. - Applied just to the lamanites narrows it too greatly. This prophecy was also given to Micah see Micah 5:14-15 - Joseph Fielding Smith Doctrines of Salvation, 2:249-250. ] go forth [ Lehi was a descendant of the tribe of Manasseh (Alma 10:3) and Ishmael was a descendant of the tribe of Ephraim (JD 23:184) D&C 27:5 states that the Book OF Mormon is the stick of Ephraim - So it can only be that with a bloodline from the tribe of Ephraim. In the last days, the tribe of Manasseh will assist the tribe of Ephraim in gathering scattered Israel (Deut. 33:13–17). Both Ephraim & Manassah were the sons of Joseph who was sold into Egypt and thus represented both branches of Joseph’s posterity, fulfilling the prophecy in Genesis 49:22 “branches run over the wall” carried over the ocean. Ephraim was given the birthright in Israel (1 Chr. 5:1–2; Jer. 31:9). In the last days their privilege and responsibility is to bear the priesthood, take the message of the restored gospel to the world, and raise an ensign to gather scattered Israel (Isa. 11:12–13; 2 Ne. 21:12–13). The children of Ephraim will crown with glory those from the north countries who return in the last days (D&C 133:26–34). ] among them; and
ye [ The Lost ten tribes. ] shall be in the midst of
them [ The gentiles, or the enemies of God. Quoted from Micah 5:8. ] who shall be many; and ye shall be among them as a lion among the beasts of the forest, and
as a young lion among the flocks of sheep,
[ The word for "lion" in ancient Hebrew, is "ariel", or the "lion of the Lord" - and it stems from the word "arah", which is to pluck, to collect / harvest, to gather. You would think that lions would scatter the flock. However; Lions are associated in ancient Hebrew with gathering, rather than scattering. This is because when a herd of prey animals senses danger, they typically gather together for safety. A young lion is one against many sheep - yet who is to be feared the flock of sheep or the one lion? symbolism: those who have the Lord on their side - those preaching the gospel are the ones who will have the strength. D&C 35:13-14; 38:30-33 "Ephraim and Manasseh" I H Barlow see also vs 19 horns. ] who, if he goeth through both treadeth down and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver.
17
Thy hand shall be lifted up upon thine adversaries, and all thine enemies shall be cut off. [ When Israel does chose to return to him they will be made great and powerful and overthrow the nations that afflicted them. They will become as young lions strong, kings of the jungle v. 16. ]
18 And
I will gather my people together as a man gathereth his sheaves into the floor.
[ What actions are required to gather sheaves from the floor? 1) Bend over 2) Gently pick them up - swift motions will break the fruit off 3) Done by groups gather not just one staff at a time but a lot of shafts so that they may support each other. ]
19 For I will make my people [ Who are his people? Here he identifies them as those with whom the Father has a covenant with. Think about that for a moment. The protection goes to those with whom the Father hath covenanted. (temple blessings) Next comes the protection clause from the Father to those. ] with whom the Father hath covenanted, [ The Lost ten tribes. ] yea, I will make thy horn [ Divine protection 2 Sam 22:3; Power 1 Kg 22:11 Power and strength (Ps 75:10) Moses likened Ephraim and Manasseh to the horns of unicorns(think rhino) who would "push" or gather Israel from the ends of the earth in the last days (Deut. 33:17) Their horns or their power then is the priesthood. ] iron, and I will make thy hoofs brass. And thou shalt beat in pieces many people; and I will consecrate their gain unto the Lord, and their substance unto the Lord of the whole earth. And behold, I am he who doeth it.
[ Verses 20-28 then expound upon this theme to emphasize this reversal is because Israel is the Lord's covenant people where the Gentiles have no covenant. He contrasts the perilous situation that the Gentiles are in v.20, 28 compared to the elect status of Israel v.21-27 ]
20 And it shall come to pass, saith the Father,
that the sword of my justice shall hang over them at that day;
[ There is no covenant there to prevent Him from annihilating them (the Gentiles) utterly if they deserve it. In the case of Israel, the Lord is bound by covenants such that he cannot utterly annihilate them, even if they deserve it. The Gentiles have nothing of the sort to protect them, and when they rebel against Him and reject His gospel they will be annihilated even as were the Jaredites. cp. Ether 8:23, Isa. 34:1-8, D&C 87:6-8. ] and except they repent it shall fall upon them, saith the Father, yea, even upon all the nations of the Gentiles.
21 And it shall come to pass that I will
establish [ Bring into being on a stable basis, with a strong and firm foundation. ] my people, O house of Israel.
22 And behold,
this people [ Israel, the people of Joseph, the son of Rachel, Jacob’s second wife. The tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh ( descendants of both Lehi and Ishmael) ] will I establish in this land,
[ Where is he (the Savior) at when he is declaring this land? The Americas. ] unto the fulfilling of the covenant which I made with your father Jacob; and it shall be a New Jerusalem.
[ What was the covenant with Jacob? 3 Ne. 21: 23 (23-24) 23 And they shall assist my people, the remnant of Jacob, and also as many of the house of Israel as shall come, that they may build a city, which shall be called the New Jerusalem.; Isa. 2: 3 (2-5) 3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us ago up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. So we are talking about ZION - The land of promise to the descendants of Jacob who's name was changed to Israel is America, and the house of Judah is Palestine - Mormon Doctrine pg 306. ] And the powers of heaven shall be in the midst of this people; yea, even I will be in the midst of you.
23 Behold,
I [ Jesus Christ the one who is teaching the people right now. ] am he of whom Moses spake, saying:
[ This prophecy is found in all of the standard works - So it must be of some importance. Duet 18 when Moses originally gave it; Acts 3 Stephen refers to it; It is found here; Moroni refers to it as the prophecy concerning the coming of Christ. ] A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. And it shall come to pass that every soul who will not hear
that prophet [ Jesus Christ. ] shall be
cut off [ From the covenant with Abraham, 3 Ne 21:11. It is not the Lord that cuts us off but we do it to ourselves. First we stop listening to the prophets and quit doing what they ask, then we loose our testimony of the true knowledge of god and the gospel, and thus we become bereft of the Priesthood and the holy ordinances which by their very nature would led us back to the presence of God. ] from among the people.
[The gathering comes at a time when there shall be false prophets on the earth, and the gathering will take place as those who come to understand the true Christ come forth and accept him, and hear and accept the voice of his prophets. ]
24 Verily I say unto you, yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have testified of me.
25 And behold,
ye are the children of the prophets;
[ The Lord makes sure that the people are aware that they are pure descendants of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob and thereby are descendants of the blessings promised Abraham, Issac and Jacob. The Lord in inter-weaving the 19 Isaiah chapters into his message here( 2 Ne 8:2).] and
ye are [ Specific identification - or in other words he is saying "Know this". ] of the house of Israel; and ye are of the covenant which the Father made with your fathers, saying unto Abraham: And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.
26 The Father having raised me up unto you first, and
sent me [ The Father was the one who sent him. ] to bless you in turning away every one of you from his iniquities; [ What did the Father send him to do? to turn them from their iniquities, to bring them to repentance. ] and
this because ye are the children of the covenant— [ It appears as if there is some redemptive power to those who are or fall under the covenant. The power of the covenant is far greater and far deeper than we can imagine. Jospeh Smith, Orson F. Whitney and Elder Packer have all taught of the redemptive powers that the covenant has with wayward children. ]
27
And after that ye were blessed [ When they have turned away from their iniquities. ] then fulfilleth the Father the covenant which he made with
Abraham,
[What was the covenant that they Lord made with Abraham? A covenant between the lord and Abraham which included 1) promise of land 2) promise of prosperity 3) promise of priesthood blessings 4) promise of gospel blessings for all families. ] saying: In thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed—unto the pouring out of the Holy Ghost through me upon the
Gentiles, [ Ephraim. This is done in order for God to prepare Ephraim to fulfill her mission for the world. ] which blessing upon the
Gentiles [ The United States of America. ] shall make them mighty above all,
unto the scattering of my people, [ Those remnants of Israel who are in America already - The Native Americans. ] O house of Israel.
28 And
they [ The Gentiles see vs 27. So the Gentiles wil be a scourge and will scatter the house of Israel. ] shall be a scourge unto
the people of this land. [ Manasseh. The Native Americans. ] Nevertheless, when they shall have received the fulness of my gospel, then if they shall harden their hearts against me I will return
their iniquities upon their own heads,
[ So the gentiles can get on the bus or get run over by the bus - either way Gods work will proceed further as he will proceed to gather Israel - Israel will be gathered one way or another - as if to say with or without the help of the gentiles, all because of the covenants that Abraham made with God. See D&C 45:25-31, Isa. 51:23. ] saith the Father. [ 29-46 emphasize that Israel's return to the Lord will be when the remnants receive the fulness of the gospel and accept Christ. All three sections address the gathering of Israel, each emphasizing a particular point thereof. Jesus then expands upon the subject of v. 23-24 to explain that when scattered Israel receives the fulness of the gospel and accepts Him as Christ (v. 30-31) then they will be gathered and established upon her ancestral lands (v. 29). And when this occurs, all of the predictions of the OT Prophets be fulfilled and Zion will be founded and her people rejoice and so on (v. 32-45). Jesus then closes the quotations by stating plainly that all the predictions he just quoted will come to pass and Israel will be established on her ancestral lands (v. 46) ]
29 And
I will remember the covenant which I have made with my people;
[ The Jews. How do we know he is talking about the Jews here? We know who he is talking about now because he says that this group will inherit the land of Jerusalem - Not that Jesus was going to forget - but another way of saying I will keep my promise - it will happen. ] and I have covenanted with them that I would
gather [ The prophet Joseph Smith taught that the main objective of gathering was to build unto the Lord a house whereby He could reveal unto His people the ordinances of His house and the glories of his kingdom, and teach the people the way of salvation Teachings PJS 307-8 ] them together in mine own due time, that I would give unto them again the land of their fathers for their inheritance,
which is the land of Jerusalem,
[ So the land of Jerusalem has been promised to both judah and the lost ten tribes. The Jews receive the land of Jerusalem as their inheritance in the covenant, Josephs descendants receive America (New Jerusalem) v 22 In 1948 the modern state of Israel was established - providing a place where the jews could gather home to their inheritance. ] which is the promised land unto them forever, saith the Father.
30 And it shall come to pass that the time cometh, when the fulness of
my gospel shall be preached unto them;
[ Judah will be the last to have the gospel preached unto them in the latter days. Concerning this event, Wilford Woodruff said in 1855: “When the Gentiles reject the Gospel it will be taken from them, and go to the House of Israel, to that long-suffering people that are now scattered abroad through all the nations upon the earth, … and they will rebuild Jerusalem their ancient city, and make it more glorious than at the beginning, and they will have a leader in Israel with them, a man that is full of the power of God and the gift of the Holy Ghost; but they are held now from this work, only because the fulness of the Gentiles has not yet come in.” (Journal of Discourses, vol. 2, p. 200. Italics added.)
Therefore, Latter-day Saints should not be surprised when a great mission is established in Israel. At the present time we cannot do missionary work there for two major reasons: (1) Our church is not officially recognized by Israel, and (2) there are laws in Israel against proselyting. But the time will come, in fulfillment of the words of the prophets, when the gospel of Jesus Christ will be preached to the Jewish people. ]
31
And they [ The Jews. ] shall believe in me, that I am Jesus Christ, the
son of God, [ He is not the son of Joseph. He is not the son of a man. This title the son Of God means that his Father is literally God our Father in Heaven ] and shall pray unto the Father in my name.
32 Then shall their watchmen lift up their voice, and with the voice together shall they sing; for they shall see eye to eye.
[ Judah, Joseph and the remnant of Jacob. v32-45 are a compounded quotation of selections from Isa. 52 and Isa. 54.]
33 Then will the Father gather them together again,
and give unto them [ The entire house of Israel which will not take place until after the world wide purification process has taken place. ] Jerusalem for the land of their inheritance.
34
Then shall they [ Judah, Joseph and the remnant of Jacob. ] break forth into joy—Sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem; for the Father hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem.
35 The Father hath
made bare his holy arm [ Has shown his great power. ] in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of the Father; and the Father and I are one.
36 And then shall be brought to pass that which is written: Awake, awake again, and put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city, for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean.
37 Shake thyself from the dust; arise, sit down, O Jerusalem; loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion.
38 For thus saith the Lord: Ye have sold yourselves for naught, and ye shall be redeemed without money.
39 Verily, verily, I say unto you, that my people shall know my name; yea, in that day they shall know that I am he that doth speak.
40 And then shall they say: How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings unto them, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings unto them of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion: Thy God reigneth!
[ v40-45 Note these verses quote Isa. 52:7 and Isa. 52:11-15 in the context of the marred servant being Israel, and not the Messiah as Christians generally like to refer to it, cp. 21:10. ]
41 And then shall a cry go forth: Depart ye, depart ye, go ye out from thence, touch not that which is unclean;
go ye out of the midst of her; [ Referring to the last great missionary push nto the world to gather whatever will come forth. ] be ye clean that bear the vessels of the Lord.
42
For ye shall not go out with haste nor go by flight;
[ In other words you will not be forced - you will have your independence your agency. With out haste might also imply that it will be organized, supervised, under the direction of leadership - using the priesthood under the direction of the prophet. ] for the Lord will go before you, and the God of Israel shall be your rearward.
43 Behold, my servant shall deal prudently; he shall be exalted and extolled and be very high.
44 As many were astonished at thee—
his visage was so marred, more than any man, [ Just as the jews marred and have beaten Christ so to will they be beaten more than ny other group, ] and his form more than the sons of men—
45 so shall
he sprinkle [ Judahs prior scattering. Sprinkle is used to show surprise - as when you are splashed with water. So great will be their (the kings) surprise when the people of their nations accept the atonement. ] many nations;
the kings shall shut their mouths at him,
[ Kings are considered to be among the most knowledgeable of anyone on the earth. So with all of their knowledge and resources they will be astounded. Powerful kings of the Gentiles will be stunned and awed at the manner in which the Lord gathers Israel. They will look upon him with such admiration that they will not know what to say. see 3 Ne 21:8; Isa 21:15. When the Lord restores the ten tribes it wil be a thing of miracles. Maybe something along the lines of when the city of Enoch was taken up, only in reverse. ] for that
which had not been told them shall they see; [The restoration of all things in the last days, grand beyond comprehension. ] and that which they had not heard shall they consider.
46 Verily, verily, I say unto you, all these things shall surely come, even as the Father hath commanded me. Then shall
this covenant [ The covenant that God has made with these tribes as to the lands of their inheritance. ] which the Father hath covenanted with his people be fulfilled;
[ Who is his people? Israel when the words of Isaiah chapter 50 or 52 have been fulfilled then will the covenant be fulfilled. ] and
then shall Jerusalem be inhabited again with my people,
[ Who are my people or Jesus's people? The Jews, Israel. ] and it shall be the land of their inheritance.
