CHAPTER 4
The Nephite armies defeat the Gadianton robbers—Giddianhi is slain, and his successor, Zemnarihah, is hanged—The Nephites praise the Lord for their victories. [Between A.D. 18 and 22]
AND it came to pass that in the latter *end of the eighteenth year [ Almost two years after the first treaty from Giddianhi. 18 years from the sign - that would be 2017 on our calendar. This is the year that Donald Trump takes office. The year Gary Herbert becomes governor and Spencer Cox becomes lieutenant governor. So we have the southern Kingdom of Judah archetype lining up in the same year (Salt lake county and utah county are mirror images of the Jerusalem area. ). In addition Virgo sign happens in 2017. and the Virgo sign matches Revelation 12 and 2017. and it matches so precisely in 2017 - which is 17 years after the dtart of the new millenium. The last time this same sign happened was September 22nd and 23rd 1827 which happens to be the day that Joseph Smith received the plates from the angel Moroni. So from the date that Joseph Smith received the plates to the establishment of the church which was 1844 (on 11 March 1844. in Nauvoo Illinois Joseph Smith organized the council that he and his closest associate saw as the beginning of the government of the literal kingdom of God on Earth the council known both as the Council of the kingdom of God and the Council of 50 operated under Smith's leadership until his murder less than four months later this volume has never been publicly available this is published in the Joseph's newspapers for the first time so we never had this and what does it say in that very first sentence 11th of March 1844 Joseph organizes the kingdom of God on Earth okay now why would that matter because that was what they called the council 50 and the Council of 50 is what took the church to Utah and then it became the territorial government of the state of Desiree and organized a system called the Utah caucus system by which the neighborhoods were organized according to the pattern of Israel from Deuteronomy and that Mike Leavitt helped wipe that out and we lost it in about 2018.) So if Joseph Smith received the golden plates in 1827 and the kingdom of God was not established until 1844 that is 17 years. ] those armies of robbers had prepared for battle, and began to come down and to sally [ An issue or rushing of troops from a besieged place to attack the besiegers. ] forth from the hills, and out of the mountains, and the wilderness, and their strongholds, and their secret places, and began to take possession of the lands, both which were in the land south and which were in the land north, and began to take possession of all the lands which had been deserted by the Nephites, and the cities which had been left desolate.
But behold, there were no wild beasts nor game in those lands which had been deserted by the Nephites, and there was no game for the robbers save it were in the wilderness.
And the robbers could not exist save it were in the wilderness, for the want of food; for the Nephites had left their lands desolate, and had gathered their flocks and their herds and all their substance, [ This is the reverse of how it will usually work. Usually the attacking army will stop the flow of goods into the attacked city and starve them out - but not here. ] and they were in one body.
Therefore, there was no chance for the robbers to plunder and to obtain food, save it were to come up in open battle against the Nephites; and the Nephites being in one body, and having so great a number, and having reserved for themselves provisions, and horses and cattle, and flocks of every kind, that they might subsist for the space of seven years, [ There prophets had commanded them to put away food for seven years not just 2 as we have been commanded. ] in the which time they did hope to destroy the robbers from off the face of the land; and thus the eighteenth year did pass away.
And it came to pass that in the *nineteenth year Giddianhi found that it was expedient that he should go up to battle against the Nephites, for there was no way that they could subsist save it were to plunder and rob and murder.
[ Or in other words their backs were against the wall, they were running out of food and their strength was diminishing. ]
And they durst not spread themselves upon the face of the land insomuch that they could raise grain, lest the Nephites should come upon them and slay them; therefore Giddianhi gave commandment unto his armies that in this year they should go up to battle against the Nephites. [ Three years since the threat occurred, and they are hungry. ]
And it came to pass that they did come up to battle; and it was in the sixth month; and behold, great and terrible was the day that they did come up to battle; and they were girded about after the manner of robbers ; [ Note that it says they were girded about as robbers not warriors. ] and they had a lamb-skin about their loins, and they were dyed in blood, and their heads were shorn, and they had head-plates upon them; and great and terrible was the appearance of the armies of Giddianhi, because of their armor, and because of their being dyed in blood.
And it came to pass that the armies of the Nephites, when they saw the appearance of the army of Giddianhi, had all fallen to the earth, [ This sentence can be a bit confusing. But what he is saying is that when the Nephites saw the army of Giddianhi(the gang) coming upon them they fell to their knees and pleaded with God for the powere to defeat their enemy. Good lesson for us. ] and did lift their cries to the Lord their God, that he would spare them and deliver them out of the hands of their enemies.
And it came to pass that when the armies of Giddianhi [ The oath leader, the gang leader and robber - the bad guy. ] saw this they began to shout with a loud voice, because of their joy, for they had supposed that the Nephites had fallen with fear because of the terror of their armies.
But in this thing they were disappointed, for the Nephites did not fear them; but they did fear their God and did supplicate him for protection; [ They were bent over praying. ] therefore, when the armies of Giddianhi did rush upon them they were prepared to meet them; yea, in the strength of the Lord they did receive them. [ What a powerful expression of being on the Lords side, fighting with the power of God. ]
And the battle commenced in this the sixth month; and great and terrible was the battle thereof, yea, great and terrible was the slaughter thereof, insomuch that there never was known so great a slaughter among all the people of Lehi since he left Jerusalem.
And notwithstanding the threatenings and the oaths which Giddianhi had made, behold, the Nephites did beat them, [ Why? Because they did the things that the Lord had commanded them to do. What signifigance does that have for us today? Are we doing the things that the Lords has commanded? This is not just a lesson on war but it is a lesson to be diligent in your preparation, and diligent in your commitments and covenants. ] insomuch that they did fall back from before them.
And it came to pass that Gidgiddoni [ The good guy, the prophet leader. ] commanded that his armies [ The Nephites. ] should pursue them [ The Gaddianton robbers. ] as far as the borders of the wilderness, and that they should not spare any that should fall into their hands by the way; and thus they did pursue them and did slay them, to the borders of the wilderness, even until they had fulfilled the commandment of Gidgiddoni.
And it came to pass that Giddianhi, who had stood and fought with boldness, was pursued as he fled; and being weary because of his much fighting he was overtaken and slain. And thus was the end of Giddianhi the robber. [ The oath leader, the gang leader and robber - the bad guy. ] .
And it came to pass that the armies of the Nephites did return again to their place of security. [ They went back to their homes. In a gospel sense where are our places of security? What can we gain from being there? What can we learn from these lessons? Notice how the robbers even though they are defeated they do not stop attacking they only change their strategy in the next verses. ] And it came to pass that this nineteenth year did pass away, and the robbers did not come again to battle; neither did they come again in the twentieth year.
And in the *twenty and first year [ So in our time it would be 2020. ] they did not come up to battle, but they came up on all sides to lay siege [ It was not done in a battle, but with external forces. ] round about the people of Nephi; for they did suppose that if they should cut off the people of Nephi from their lands, and should hem them in [ In spiritual sense there is a message here from the outside world as well. "To cut them off, to hem them in, to remove access to outer privileges". Think about what outward privileges might entail, even going back to Korihor. You are locked into a set a rules, you don't have your agency but are blindly following the rules that others have made for you. You are now oppressed, you can't do what you want. Now Zemnariha is suggesting the same thing in an effort to convince them that you don't have what you need in there, that we have all the good stuff out here. So the only way for you to enjoy life, like we do, is to come out, lower your defenses, lower your standards and just come. And if you look at this in perspective to verse 18 it is an advantage to us as well. ] on every side, and if they should cut them off from all their outward privileges , [ So on our timeline what happened in 2020? We were shut out of our churches, temples, shopping gathering... all due to covid. Or at least as they had thought. You see the Nephites had established their outward priviledges to be with God and that they did not need anything that was not found with God. They were content to live withing Gods laws as such they did not feel confinded. They had learn to trust that all will be well with those who follow God. ] that they could cause [ This was the way that they were able to accomplish what they wanted. ] them to yield themselves up [ Or give away certain rights. ] according to their wishes. [ Or the wishes of those who wanted to take over. So the idea was that if you can cut off the ability of the people to get food and supplies from the outside they will eventually get hungry and give up, they will do what you want them to do. However in this case the food and the animals and everything was gathered up into the city, there was nothing left outside for the robbers. So that those that were inside the city walls were better off than the robbers outside. It was kind of a reverse siege. ]
Now they [ The Gaddianton robbers. ] had appointed unto themselves another leader, whose name was Zemnarihah; therefore it was Zemnarihah [ Fauci was the figurehead who was appointed to lead the process of taking away all kinds of rights. Zemnarihah will later be taken and hanged, about what happened to Fauci when he went to congress. ] that did cause that this siege should take place.
But behold, this was an advantage to the Nephites; [ If you guys want to play the game of siege; well guess what, we just beat you at your own game. We took up everything that you might use and we locked it all inside our protective walls and closed the doors and you are not welcome to it. We are fine for a long time - hope all is well with you, good luck we are fine for 7 years, and a lot can change in 7 years. So much for your strategy, so much for your speech that life is better on the outside, so much that we are hemed in and cut off, but if you think about it - it is you that is cut off from what you could have had. ] for it was impossible for the robbers to lay siege sufficiently long to have any effect upon the Nephites, because of their much provision which they had laid up in store, [ If ye are prepared ye shall not fear. The Lord had told them what to do and it was all working as God intended. ]
And because of the scantiness of provisions among the robbers; [ Remember Lachoneus had them gather everything up before they went inside the city walls, they picked the outside area clean. ] for behold, they had nothing [ The ground was picked bare. ] save it were meat for their subsistence, which meat they did obtain in the wilderness;
And it came to pass that the wild game became scarce in the wilderness insomuch that the robbers were about to perish with hunger. [ How can you fight when you are so hungry that you can hardly stand? The answer not very well as we can see here. Symbolically how long can you stand if you are standing without God? ]
And the Nephites were continually marching out by day and by night, and falling upon their armies, and cutting them off by thousands and by tens of thousands. [ That is a lot of bloodshed going on. When the body is malnourished you have fatigue, dizziness, and you do not make good decisions, especially at night. So the idea that they attached at night would give the Nephites an additional advantage. ]
And thus it became the desire of the people of Zemnarihah [ The commander of the Gadianton robbers after Giddianhi was killed. ] to withdraw from their design, because of the great destruction which came upon them by night and by day.
And it came to pass that Zemnarihah did give command unto his people that they should withdraw themselves from the siege, [ Because it was working so well... haha. ] and march into the furthermost parts of the land northward.
And now, Gidgiddoni being aware of their design, and knowing of their weakness because of the want of food, and the great slaughter which had been made among them, therefore he did send out his armies in the night-time, and did cut off the way of their retreat, and did place his armies in the way of their retreat. [ So they are surrounded, there is no way out for the robbers. ]
And this did they do in the night-time, and got on their march beyond the robbers, so that on the morrow, when the robbers began their march, they were met by the armies of the Nephites both in their front and in their rear.
And the robbers who were on the south were also cut off in their places of retreat. And all these things were done by command of Gidgiddoni.
And there were many thousands who did yield themselves up prisoners unto the Nephites, and the remainder of them were slain. [ Sounds like they were given a choice. ]
And their leader, Zemnarihah, was taken and hanged upon a tree, [ Interesting this is the first that we have heard of a hanging. Is there anything signifigant about that? "Regarding the execution of Zemnarihah, leader of the band of Gadianton (see 3 Nephi 4:28–29), Welch has discussed the concept of hanging in early Judaism and the symbolism of felling the tree as a warning to other potential wrong doers. My attention has been particularly drawn to the reasons Zemnarihah was hanged rather than, say, stoned—the more usual method of execution under the law of Moses. One of the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Temple Scroll (also called 11Q19), calls for execution of a spy—one who defects to another nation and curses his own people, or one who "betrays his people to a foreign nation or causes evil against his people"—by hanging. The Israelites who joined themselves to their enemies, the Midianites, in the worship of the false god Baal-Peor and were hanged by Moses fit this description of a traitor (see Numbers 25:1–9).
The Gadianton band led by Zemnarihah consisted of dissenters who had turned against the Nephites (see Helaman 11:24–26; 3 Nephi 1:27–28). In Gadianton's day they had fled the land to avoid being apprehended for their treasonous acts in killing the chief judge Pahoran and attempting to slay his successor, Helaman (see Helaman 2:11). Because of this flight, they fit the description found in the Temple Scroll of the man who "escapes amongst the nations." Giddianhi, Zemnarihah's predecessor as leader of the band, admitted that his people had dissented from the Nephites (see 3 Nephi 3:9–11). It is also of interest that Giddianhi swore "with an oath" to destroy the Nephites (3 Nephi 3:8), clearly plotting evil against the people as also mentioned in the Temple Scroll. His successor's execution by hanging is entirely in line with early Jewish law.
From this information we can see that even the minutest details of the executions of Laban and Zemnarihah are in conformity with ancient Jewish traditions unavailable to Joseph Smith." Ancient Texts in Support of the Book of Mormon ] yea, even upon the top thereof until he was dead. And when they had hanged him until he was dead they did fell the tree to the earth, [ Not only did they hang him but they felled the tree as well see notes above. "he that is hanged is accursed of God. [heb] that is, it is the highest degree of reproach that can attach to a man, and proclaims him under the curse of God as much as any external punishment can. They that see him thus hanging between heaven and earth, will conclude him abandoned of both, and unworthy of either. " Jewish law 101 http://www.jewfaq.org/613.htm "That the dead body of an executed criminal shall not remain hanging on the tree over night (Deut. 21:23) (negative)." ] and did cry with a loud voice, saying:
May the Lord preserve his people in righteousness and in holiness of heart, that they may cause to be felled to the earth all who shall seek to slay them because of power and secret combinations, even as this man hath been felled to the earth.
And they did rejoice and cry again with one voice, saying: May the God of Abraham, [ These same words where uttered by others ( Mosiah 7:19; Mosiah 23:23; Alma 29:11; 36:2; 3 Ne. 4:30; Morm. 9:11 ) What event do these all consistently suggest from the life of Abraham that provides a foundation to put your trust in God as did Abraham? Abraham was bound up on the altar of King Nimrod, his destruction was imminent, and yet Abraham trusted God against otherwise impossible odds. It was in a way Abraham against all of society, he was alone, and yet still he trusted God with whom he had a relationship. In the Book of Abraham, the story begins with young Abraham on a collision course with the world around him. He was opposing the practices not merely of a few wicked individuals but of a whole society whose "hearts were set to evil" (Abr. 1:6) and who would tolerate no questioning of their evil ways. Yet one individual trust in God enough to go the coarse alone. ] and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, protect this people in righteousness, so long as they shall call on the name of their God for protection.
And it came to pass that they did break forth, all as one, in singing, and praising their God for the great thing which he had done for them, in preserving them from falling into the hands of their enemies.
Yea, they did cry: Hosanna to the Most High God. And they did cry: Blessed be the name of the Lord God [ Hebrew - Yahweh ( or Jehovah which means "to become" or "to exist") translated as Lord; Elohim translated as God ("the Gods") which together the words mean "He will cause Gods to be". ] Almighty, the Most High God.
