ST JOHN
	CHAPTER 16

Jesus discourses on mission of Holy Ghost—He tells of his death and resurrection, announces his own divine sonship, and says he has overcome the world.

2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.

4 But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.

5 But now I go my
way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither
goest thou? [as if to say instead of being sorry and staying quite Why
don't you ask me more about where I am going, what that is like and more
		about my Father?]

7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It
		is expedient for
you that I go away:[ Why is it expedient that
Jesus go away? Jesus said that one of his purposes was to fulfill the
law (the Law Of Moses), his mission as well was to fulfill the Abrahamic
Covenant and provide all nations the opportunity to be grafted into Israel.
Why couldn't the spirit be dispersed to the gentiles until after Jesus'
ministry was complete? 1) Jesus' specific assignment was to natural Israel
according to the Abrahamic Covenant Matt 15:24 "But he answered and said,
I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel." However
after fulfilling his promise to natural Israel they rejected him - so
the covenant was made available to all mankind. See Acts13:46, 1 Ne.
		10:11, 1 Ne. 15:17, 3 Ne. 9:16, 3 Ne.16:7, D&C 10:57. 2) The law of Moses
declared the Gentile nations as unclean and as such there was to be a
strict seperation between them. With the fulfillment of the Law 3 Ne.
9:17 the Gentiles were "cleansed" so to speak and with that comes the
end to seperation from them Acts 10:15. 3) While the Abrahamic Covenant
is aimed specificially at Abrahams literal offspring it also includes
the opportunity for all nations of the earth to be blessed through the
same covenant, cf. Abr. 2:10-11. See also 1 Ne. 15:18, 1 Ne. 22:8-11,
3 Ne. 20:25-27. Also, Isa. 56 makes a number of predictions concerning
permitting Gentiles to participate in ordinances they were at that time
excluded from. 4) The scattering of Israle is immenent Matt 24:2 As such,
if the Gospel is to be available to Israle then it must go to all nations
because Israel as a nation will no longer exist. Luke 21:24, 1 Ne. 22:7-11,
		D&C 39:11.] for
if I go not away, the Comforter will
not come unto you; but if I depart, I
will send him unto you. [earlier in john 14:16,26
Jesus aid he would ask the Father to send the Holy Ghost Now he says
		he will send him himself.]

13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew [ Will show you. (D&C 50:21–24, 27–29.) Ignorance Is Expensive By President Hartman Rector, Jr. Of the First Council of the Seventy https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/1971/04/ignorance-is-expensive?lang=eng&fbclid=IwY2xjawFO3j5leHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHeTuRL9sOJuVzky0Hh4_jIKOgicUpKhxyKdLediPtw1lZIAucAGpc-u5GA_aem_8n6Iz_zlftTZyKMrYnl4Kg ] you things to come.

15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

16 A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.

17 Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?

19 Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?

20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

21 A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.

22 And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

23 And in that day ye shall ask me
nothing.[Because he will be our brother - and
we will go directly to our Father. We will be joint heirs with Jesus
in the kingdom of our Father in heaven. We can receive and posess, and
		inherit jointly with him] Verily,
verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the
Father in my name, he will give it you.

25 These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.

26 At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:

27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.

28 I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.

30 Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.
