MICAH
CHAPTER 2
The destruction of Israel is lamented—The Lord will gather the remnant of Israel.
WOE to them [ The leaders. ] that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! [ They spend the entire night thinking of the evil things that they can do the next day. ] when the morning is light, they practise it, [ Then when the day comes the execute the evil that they have designed during the night. ] because it is in the power of their hand. [ Simple because they can. This gives us an idea of how corrupt they are. They cannot even go to sleep without dreaming of the evil that they can accomplish the next day to make more money and be more evil than they were the day before. ]
And they covet fields, and take them by violence; and houses, and take them away: so they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, against this family [ Israel. ] do I devise an evil, from which ye shall not remove your necks; [ Your necks is the symbol of bondage, or servitude, the yoke being placed on it. ] neither shall ye go haughtily: [ Proud. ] for this time is evil. [ Your pride is all going to be removed. ]
¶ In that day shall one take up a parable against you, and lament with a doleful lamentation, and say, We be utterly spoiled: he hath changed the portion of my people: how hath he removed it from me! turning away he hath divided our fields.
Therefore thou shalt have none [ No one will descent. ] that shall cast a cord [ The cord is the tape measure used by the surveyor in measuring out the size of the land. ] by lot in the congregation of the LORD. [ This verse then suggests that there will no longer be need for the surveyor to measure out the lots give to the rightful descendents as they will all be gone, so the land is available to anyone. ]
Prophesy ye not, say they to them that prophesy: they shall not prophesy to them, that they shall not take shame.
¶ O thou that art named the house of Jacob, is the spirit of the LORD straitened? are these his doings? do not my words do good to him that walketh uprightly?
Even of late my people is risen up as an enemy: [ Not only are they an enemy to the Lord but they have become enemies to each other. ] ye pull off the robe [ The outer layer of clothing; often symbolic of rank or political position, toga as a victor in a war. ] with the garment from them that pass by securely as men averse from war.
The women of my people have ye cast out from their pleasant houses; from their children have ye taken away my glory for ever. [ Moses 1:39 is Gods glory so what they have done here is they have stopped Gods children from progressing and receiving that glory. His children no long know how to become exalted and obtain eternal life. ]
Arise ye, and depart; [ From the land of Judah. Isa. 8:6-8 Micah is giving them the same warning here that Isaiah gave the people. ] for this is not your rest: because it is polluted, it shall destroy you, even with a sore destruction. [ Like a mighty river when it overtakes it's banks there is nothing that man can do to stop the flooding and destruction that will come. Assyria will use her power and overtake Syria and Israel , and then move against Judah, and they will come with the same kind of force as a mighty river. Isa. 8:6:8 We need to remember that these armies are hundreds of mines away when Micah and Isaiah made these prophecies. So if you are a good saint and you are listening to the prophets of the day what do you need to do? You need to move to Jerusalem, but the people are saying well we live in Lachish(one of the largest fortified cities in Judah); we are surrounded by very large walls that will protect us, we will be okay. But that was not what the prophet had said. So the fact that he has made reference to the body being flooded to the neck means that everything below the head will be destroyed and the head will be the only part to survive. What would the head have been in this day? It would have been Jerusalem. So the prophet is saying that if you want to survive you need to go to Jerusalem. ]
If a man walking in the spirit and falsehood do lie, saying, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people. [ Or the way you guys think is that if someone will come along and prophesy worldly things(strong drink and wine) then you will accept him aas a prophet. How might we say this today? You only want to listen to those who will tell you what you want to hear. (Hel. 13:27-28) ]
¶ I will surely assemble, [ To gather. ] O Jacob, all of thee; I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; [ "remnant of Israel" that which is left over from the destruction. The gathering of Israel in the dispensation of the fullness of times. ] I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah, [ Means sheep fold. So here he is gathering the sheep to a place of safety. So if we were to put this in our terms today it would read that the Lord is gathering his saints to the temple. Elder Haight once said that when you baptise someone they have just reached first base, it you want a home run you need to get them sealed in the temple. So to secure the flock is to secure them in the temple of God. ] as the flock in the midst of their fold: they shall make great noise [ They will be joyful. Joy in returning, joy in membership in the church, joy in being in the temple. ] by reason of the multitude of men.
The breaker [ Or the deliverer. ] is come up before them: they have broken up, and have passed through the gate, and are gone out by it: and their king shall pass before them, [ Their King who is Jesus Christ will go before them. ] and the LORD on the head of them. [ D&C 38:21 He will be the one who is our ruler in the last days. ]
