MICAH
CHAPTER 3
Priests who teach for hire, and prophets who divine for money, bring a curse upon the people.
1 AND I said, Hear, I pray you, O heads of Jacob, [ The leaders and the rulers. ] and ye princes of the house of Israel; Is it not for you to know judgment? [ A good shepherd knows the flock and what the flock needs on an individual basis so that they can administer justice(to minister fairly). ]
2 Who hate the good, and love the evil; who pluck off their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones; [ This is something that a wolf would do, so the leaders here have become a wolves. They pray upon the people taking everything from them, their substance. (Ezekiel 34:2-8 Which is a warning to the priesthood leaders in the church of God. ) ]
3 Who also eat the flesh of my people, and flay their skin from off them; and they break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as flesh within the caldron.
4 Then shall they [ The leaders of the church. ] cry unto the LORD, but he will not hear them: [ God will not hear the unrighteous leaders because they will not hear the people. ] he will even hide his face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings.
5 ¶ Thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets [ Here we can see that these are false prophets because they make the people err. ] that make my people err, that bite with their teeth, [ They destroy. ] and cry, Peace; and he [ Those true prophets. ] that putteth not into their mouths, they even prepare war against him. [ The true prophets. So in summary we have a verse describing the contrast between the true prophets of God and the False prophets. ]
6 Therefore night shall be unto you, [ The false prophets. ] that ye shall not have a vision; and it shall be dark unto you, that ye shall not divine; and the sun [ The sun provides the following things to us: Light and direction; warmth and comfort; growth and prosperity. ] shall go down over the prophets, and the day shall be dark over them. [ So in essence they are going to loose the light that they have had, their direction will be impeded, they will be left without comfort from the Lord, and they will not grow closer to him. ]
7 Then shall the seers be ashamed, and the diviners confounded: yea, they shall all cover their lips; for there is no answer of God.
[ Verse 8-12 are the testimony that Micah is a true prophet of God. ] 8 ¶ But truly I am full of power by the spirit of the LORD, [ A true prophet boldly testifies that he is a prophet of God. ] and of judgment, and of might, to declare unto Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.
9 Hear this, I pray you, ye heads of the house of Jacob, and princes of the house of Israel, that abhor judgment, and pervert all equity.
10 They build up Zion with blood, [ These false prophets have built their cities with the blood and sacrifice of the people. ] and Jerusalem with iniquity.
11 The heads thereof judge for reward, [ They can be bribed to rule a certain way. ] and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money: yet will they lean upon the LORD, and say, Is not the LORD among us? none evil can come upon us. [ So Micah is saying that you are nothing but hypocrites. ]
12 Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed as a field, [ Turned over, what is on top is plowed under and what is underneath come to the top. The ground is made fresh. Jer. 26:18 ] and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest.
