MICAH
CHAPTER 4
In the last days, the temple shall be built, Israel shall gather to it, the Millennial era will commence, and the Lord will reign in Zion.
1 BUT in the last days [ The dispensation of the fulness of times. ] it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, [ Harold B Lee said well the church was in its infancy the Lord pointed to a time when those earlier gathering places would not have room for all who would be gathered for reasons for which he declared that his church should be United here are his words for thus shall my church be called in the last days even the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and then this command arise and shine forth that thy light might be a standard for the Nations here's clearly inferred at the coming forth of his church in these days was the beginning of the Fulfillment of the ancient prophecy when the mountain of the Lord's House should be established in the top of the mountains shall be exalted above the hills and All Nations shall flow unto it many people shall go and say Come Ye let us go up to the Mount of the Lord to the house of the god of Jacob he will teach us of his ways we'll walk in his paths that comes from conference report April 1973 page 5; Also Orson Pratt said with the coming of the Pioneers to establish the church in the tops of the mountains our early leaders declared this to be the beginning of the Fulfillment of that prophecy not the beginning to it Orson Pratt one of the members of The Twelve delivered an oration on that occasion in which he declared that this was the beginning of the Fulfillment of the prophecy that our design should go forth the law in the word of the Lord here is the reference again. This is from Harold B Lee quoting Orson Pratt in the teachings of Harold B Lee edited by Clyde Williams page 377. (2 Ne. 12:2-4) LeGrand Richards he said this how literally that has been fulfilled in my way of thinking in this very House of the God of Jacob right here on this block reference to Salt Lake this Temple more than any other building of which we have any record has brought people from every land to learn of his ways and walk in his paths.
So Elder LeGrand Richards says that the prophecy has some fulfillment with the Salt Lake Temple and that's what we usually teach; however they may be much more to this prophecy. As found from the following two quotes.
First is the heading to Doctrine covenants section 57 it says this Revelation given through Joseph Smith the prophet in Zion Jackson County Missouri in compliance with the Lord's command the elders had journeyed from Kirtland to Missouri with many varied experiences in some opposition in contemplating the state of the lamanites and the lack of civilization refinement and religion among the people generally the prophet exclaimed in yearning prayer when will the Wilderness Blossom as a rose when will Zion be built up in her glory where will thy Temple stand now note unto which All Nations shall come in the last days then the Lord identifies the location as Independence Missouri where it will have its fulfillment.
Joseph Smith also said: I want to make a proclamation to the elders I wanted you to stay in order that I might make this Proclamation you know very well that the Lord has led this church by Revelation I have another Revelation in relation to economy in the church a great grand and glorious Revelation I shall not be able to dwell as largely upon it now as at some other time but I will give you the first principles you know there has been great discussion in relation to Zion where it is and where the Gathering of the dispensation is in which I'm now going to tell you the prophets have spoken and written upon it but I will make a proclamation that will cover a broader ground the whole of America's Zion itself from north to south and is described by the prophets who declare that is the Zion where the mountain of the Lord shall be now note and that it should be in the center of the land when elder shall take up and examine the old Prophecy in the Bible they will see it Salt Lake City is not in the center of the land but Independence Missouri is in the center of the land now.
So what thoughts are these two quotes bringing forward?
That Salt Lake City and the temple there is only a partial fulfillment of the prophecy but not the complete fulfillment that complete fulfillment of that prophecy. The complete fulfillment will be when that Holy city is built in the center of the land in Independence Missouri.
So now the question that comes forth is well then how do you explain tops of the mountains?
The phrase "tops of the mountains" is symbolic. It is a High Place one that is lifted up. It means that this city what stands out above all other cities in the world why it's like it's on the top of a mountain where everybody can see it and All Nations will indeed flow unto it so the Salt Lake Temple is but a partial fulfillment, but the complete fulfillment will not come until sometime later. Bruce R McConkie also said "in the great day of restoration a day that has commenced but in which many things yet remain to be restored there will finally be two world capitals both called Zion both called Jerusalem one shall be the seed of government the other the spiritual capital of the world for out of Zion shall go forth the law and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem see it isn't fulfilled yet that is to say Jerusalem of old shall be restored build up Anew in glory and Beauty according to the promises and also another Jerusalem a New Jerusalem shall be established" (The Mortal Messiah book 1 page 95) ] and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.
2 And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
3 ¶ And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
[ The millennial reign. ]
4 But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; [ All because there is peace and no war. ] and none shall make them afraid: [ The wicked are removed. ] for the mouth of the LORD of hosts hath spoken it.
5 For all people will walk every one in the name of his god, [ At this point the people on the earth are all good people, but at this point they do not all belive in Jesus Christ, they are all not members. Hence they will walk after their own Gods. ] and we will walk in the name of the LORD our God for ever and ever.
[ This is the members of the church. ]
6 In that day, [ Verse 6-8 have to do with the gathering of Israel. ] saith the LORD, will I assemble her [ Feminine tense - Israel. Christ is masculine tense so Israel would be feminine tense. Israel is the bride, Christ is the groom. ] that halteth, and I will gather her that is driven out, and her that I have afflicted;
7 And I will make her that halted a remnant, and her that was cast far off a strong nation: and the LORD shall reign over them in mount Zion from henceforth, even for ever.
8 ¶ And thou, O tower of the flock, [ Is the Hebrew phrase "Migdal Edar" [mig-dawl ay-der] and means a "watch tower of the flock" . The "watch-tower of the flock" was a special structure on the road to Jeruselem, near the city of Bethelem that the shepherds of the flock could watch over those sheep who were to be sacrificed upon the temple altars. ] the strong hold of the daughter [ When it says daughter it means future tense. ] of Zion, unto thee shall it come, even the first dominion; the kingdom shall come to the daughter of Jerusalem. < [ To happen in the future. ]
[ Verse 9-13 suggest that the process of gathering Israel and establishing it will be difficult. These verse paint te picture of how hard it will be. ]
9 Now why dost thou cry out aloud? is there no king in thee? is thy counsellor perished? for pangs have taken thee as a woman in travail.
10 Be in pain, and labour to bring forth, O daughter of Zion, like a woman in travail: for now shalt thou go forth out of the city, and thou shalt dwell in the field, and thou shalt go even to Babylon; there shalt thou be delivered; there the LORD shall redeem thee from the hand of thine enemies.
11 ¶ Now also many nations are gathered against thee, that say, Let her be defiled, and let our eye look upon Zion.
12 But they know not the thoughts of the LORD, neither understand they his counsel: for he shall gather them as the sheaves into the floor.
13 Arise and thresh, [ Harvest. ] O daughter of Zion: for I will make thine horn [ Power. The tribe of Ephraim is the ox, the oxe has horns with which to push. So God is telling us that he will be there to help us with his power. ] iron, and I will make thy hoofs [ Power. ] brass: and thou shalt beat in pieces many people: and I will consecrate their gain unto the LORD, and their substance unto the Lord of the whole earth. [ Or the world will not stop us from completing our mission. We will go into every nation as the time as right and we will be blessed to perform the assigned work. ]
