CHAPTER 12
Paul counsels the saints to present their bodies as a living sacrifice; to use their own grace-given gifts; to live as becometh saints.
 I BESEECH you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies [ By having them become sanctified. ] a living sacrifice, [ What Does It Mean to Be a Living Sacrifice? “Paul is here alluding to the fact that the old sacrifices, those unto death, are abolished, that they have been replaced with a new order, sacrifices unto life. As with almost all doctrines, this is taught in the Book of Mormon with greater plainness and perfection than in the Bible. To the Nephites, after his resurrection, the Lord Jesus said: ‘Ye shall offer up unto me no more the shedding of blood; yea, your sacrifices and your burnt offerings shall be done away, for I will accept none of your sacrifices and your burnt offerings. And ye shall offer for a sacrifice unto me a broken heart and a contrite spirit. And whoso cometh unto me with a broken heart and a contrite spirit, him will I baptize with fire and with the Holy Ghost.’ (3 Ne. 9:19–20.) Thus to present one’s body as a living sacrifice is to come forth with a broken heart and a contrite spirit through obedience.” (McConkie, DNTC, 2:292.) See also Moroni 10:30–33. ] holy, acceptable [ See Lev 1:4 alternate translation is: "Lay your hand on the animal’s head, and the LORD will accept its death in your place to purify you, making you right with him." ] unto God, which is your reasonable service. [ See 1 John 5:1–5: 1) Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ 2) Jesus is born of God 3) When we love God, we keep his commandments. 4) When we love God by keeping his commandments we over come the world 5) we learn by faith to be obedient. ]
 And be not conformed to this world: [ The writings of Jesus’s early Apostles frequently use the image of “the world” to represent opposition to gospel teachings.  “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God” (1 Corinthians 3:19) ] but be ye transformed [ See Ephesians 5:8 Where sometimes we were in darkness, now we walk in light, as children of light as we are on a different plane. ] by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:
 so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.
 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;
 Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;
 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.
Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.
 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;
 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;
 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;
 Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.
 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.
 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.
 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.
 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. [ "We consider that God has created man with a mind capable of instruction, and a faculty which may be enlarged in proportion to the heed and diligence given to the light communicated from heaven to the intellect; and that the nearer man approaches perfection, the clearer are his views, and the greater his enjoyments, till he has overcome the evils of his life and lost every desire for sin; and like the ancients, arrives at that point of faith where he is wrapped in the power and glory of his Maker and is caught up to dwell with Him."
