The Wise Rabbi And The Clock

A wise Rabbi was once asked why he had placed the clock so high up on the wall in the synagog. HIs response was that when the clock was low enough on the wall people would go by and set the clock to match their watches. When the clock was positioned high on the wall, too high for people to change it then people would simply set their watches to the time on the clock.

Such it is with the standards of God. We often want the clock to be low enough on the wall that we can set it at our convenience.

But if that happens what time is it really? each person that walks by resets the clock so that the person right before no longer has his time associated with the clock.

so it is with the commandments of God. God places the commandments high on the wall so to speak so that they cannot be changed by every whim of man. They are consistent and sure.

We renew our commitment to those commandments each and every week when we take the Sacrament.
